The world of employment has changed tremendously over the years. Your paper or even Word document executive resume is no longer a key player in the job search game. Now the recruiters are willing to review your Visual CV, online portfolio, or LinkedIn profile with plenty of on-brand details about you.

1. Do add an exact job target
Write a resume keeping in mind a certain target audience. Use only relevant information that will enable the hiring managers to connect you to the desired position. Make sure that every detail falls in line with your objectives.

2. Do emphasize a personal branding idea
Link all your strength, main personal characteristics and even interests in a strong message addressed to the recruiters. Let your individual branding make you different from all other candidates.

3. Do demonstrate your value proposition clearly
Make the value you will bring to the company absolutely evident and well-grounded. Use the evidence in the form of numbers and percentages.

4. Do tell career success stories
Executive job search is impossible without your ability to capture the results. Tell how you managed to be successful and hint at the future achievements.

DON’Ts
1. Don’t include a useless “Objective” statement
The employers can assume that you need a position, which gives you a chance to grow and develop. There is no need to focus on what you want. Your task is to show them what you can do best of all. Spotlight the most important keyword phrases and include your own executive brand statement.

2. Don’t present information in a format that is hard to comprehend
The hiring managers will find it much easier to read through concise statements in neat short paragraphs, instead of spelling out large amounts of confusing text.
Focus on the top quarter of the first page as busy managers typically spend most time reading through the header. Please note that an approximate time for reviewing a resume is only 10 seconds.

3. Don’t make your resume too long
A senior level resume should not exceed two pages in length. View it as a career marketing tool, not a record of all your achievements. Generate interest of the employers, but do not bore them with too many details. Speak about relevant facts without going too far into the past.

4. Don’t submit your resume without proofreading
Double check your resume for wrong formatting, spelling mistakes, and typos. Keep it consistent, clear and easy to read. Use action verbs. Put yourself in the recruiter’s shoes and ask yourself: What can make me hire this person? Facilitate the hiring process for managers. Make your resume perfect.
